In today’s fast paced global economy, the value of a quality education as well as acquiring up-to-date skills has become priceless. As our youth prepare to enter the workforce of the 21st century, now more than ever it is urgently important that they are equipped to compete for the jobs of the future. The new realities of the global economy will force younger Americans to compete against workers in other parts of the world. Just as manufacturing jobs have been relocated to foreign countries with cheaper labor, technology related jobs appear to be following the same trend. Younger Americans will find that their place in the 21st century economy will depend heavily on the education and skills they acquire. Those who possess limited education and skills can only hope for low-level, low paying jobs in the future.

Our Education/Careers page is dedicated to discussing issues and topics that address the educational needs as well as current labor and workforce trends. It also includes a regular column called Voices of the Youth, which is written by a different Chicago area high school student each month. The column is dedicated to the pulse of Chicago’s inner city youth and provides a forum where they can share their opinions and experiences on a variety of issues.
